In a recent interview with the Arizona Republic, Sammy Hagar addressed his respect for Alex Van Halen’s decision not to join a potential Van Halen reunion. Acknowledging the difficulties of moving forward without all original members, Hagar conveyed both understanding and urgency, stating he couldn’t wait another 20 years for Alex to change his mind.

Hagar remarked:

“Mike and I 20 years ago did a reunion and it’s been 20 years this year.
“I don’t have another 20 years to be waiting on Alex Van Halen, who’s the only guy left.”

Despite his firm words, Hagar softened his stance later in the conversation, expressing empathy for Alex’s preference not to perform without his brother, the late Eddie Van Halen. Hagar added:

“So he didn’t want to do it, you know. He, I guess, just doesn’t like playing without his brother. Don’t blame him. God bless him.”

Instead of Alex, Hagar has assembled an exciting lineup for their upcoming tour, featuring Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham. Highlighting Jason Bonham’s tribute to his father, John Bonham, who was Alex’s idol, Hagar explained:

“I’m getting Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham, who his dad was Alex’s hero. Jason plays just like his dad, so it’s pretty much the music is going to be served as good as it can be served today.”

Named the Best of All Worlds tour, the initiative announced in November 2023 will commence in July 2024, celebrating Hagar’s solo career and a reunion with former Van Halen members. The ensemble aims to capture the essence of their past collaborations, including their 2004 tour. Hagar reflected:

“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 2004 Best of Both Worlds tour.”

Discussing Van Halen’s legacy further on the Rock of Nations podcast, Hagar expressed disappointment over the absence of a tribute to Eddie Van Halen, suggesting that Alex Van Halen could have taken the lead. Regarding David Lee Roth’s potential involvement, Hagar clarified rumors circulating on Instagram, indicating that while Roth might briefly appear, his role would be limited despite Roth’s eagerness to participate.
