Rod Stewart has recently disclosed that a COVID-19 infection has caused him to cancel several performances on his current U.S. tour. While the iconic singer is currently recovering in isolation, he appears to be on the mend.
Last week, Stewart was forced to cancel what would have been his 200th concert in Las Vegas, initially citing a case of strep throat. However, it has since been revealed that this sore throat was an early symptom of COVID-19. As a result, Stewart has had to cancel an additional two shows.
The affected performances were scheduled for August 9th in Stateline, Nevada, and August 10th in Lincoln, California. Fortunately, these concerts have been rescheduled, and tickets from the original dates will still be honored.
In a statement, Stewart’s team addressed his diagnosis and the need to postpone the shows: “We regret to announce that tonight’s Rod Stewart concert in Stateline, NV, and his August 10th show in Lincoln, CA, have been postponed as the singer recovers from a summer strain of COVID-19.”
To reassure his fans, Stewart also announced plans for an extensive Las Vegas residency in 2025, confirming that he is eager to return to the stage. He shared:
“Vegas, I’m having too much fun for this to end, so we are coming back for an encore! Don’t miss The Encore Shows Las Vegas Residency.”
The Las Vegas residency will take place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from March 12th to May 22nd, and from May 29th to June 8th, 2025. Tickets for these dates will go on sale on August 12th at 10 AM PT.
Before his COVID-19 diagnosis, Stewart made headlines for a different reason. During a recent performance at The Colosseum, he paused the show to display a meme on the screen behind him, poking fun at former President Donald Trump. The image, a social media post, depicted Trump’s skin gradually turning a deeper shade of orange over the years, referencing the criticism Trump has faced for his supposed fake tan.
The meme’s caption humorously parodied Trump’s comments about his political opponent, Kamala Harris, in which he remarked that he didn’t know she was Black until “she made a turn and became a Black person.” The joke was spun into a fake response:
“I didn’t know he was orange until a number of years ago when he happened to turn orange… now he wants to be known as Orange. All of a sudden, he made a turn and became an Orange person. I think someone should look into that.”
While the meme was intended for light-hearted amusement, it was a clear jab at Trump’s often criticized appearance, showcasing Stewart’s willingness to mix humor with political commentary during his performances.
