In support of the victims of the devastating wildfires that occurred in Los Angeles earlier this month, the FireAid event on January 30 included legendary performances. The tournament, which featured an all-star roster, was so big that it was split between the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum.
Rock heavyweights Nirvana, Green Day, and Red Hot Chili Peppers performed alongside music pioneers Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and Stevie Wonder. Pop vocalists Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish brought their own magic to the event. But one of the most memorable event highlights was Pink’s amazing performance, which left the audience in silent awe.
Pink Shows Off Her Rock Side
Pink’s performance at the Kia Forum once again proved that she is more than just a musician. She opened with her hit song “What About Us” and then sang two classic covers: “Me and Bobby McGee” by Janis Joplin and a beautiful version of “Baby I’m Gonna Leave You” by Led Zeppelin.
Before launching into the Zeppelin classic, Pink addressed the crowd, saying, “Tonight is so special, I’m so inspired by the love that is happening… this is one of our favorites.” Then, she playfully asked, “We got any Led Zeppelin fans out there?” When the audience erupted in cheers, she smiled and added, “Alright, thank God!”
With guitarist Justin Derrico channeling Jimmy Page, Pink embodied Robert Plant’s raw intensity, delivering a powerful and deeply emotional performance.
More Epic Performances
Pink wasn’t the only one to bring Led Zeppelin to the FireAid stage. Together, Slash and the Black Crowes gave a powerful rendition of “Going to California.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers from Los Angeles, meanwhile, performed a ferocious four-song set. Stevie Nicks introduced the band, which performed their first live show since the Olympic closing ceremony last August. They played “Dani California,” “Californication,” “Black Summer,” and the moving “Under the Bridge.”
Nirvana’s Surprise Reunion
When Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear, the three remaining members of Nirvana, took the stage for an unexpected performance, it was one of the night’s biggest surprises.
The concert was made even more memorable by the guest vocalists, who each contributed their own distinct approach to Nirvana’s well-known songs. Dave’s daughter Violet Grohl gave a moving performance of “All Apologies,” and St. Vincent gave “Breed” unadulterated passion.
Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth gave a powerful take on “School,” and Joan Jett closed out the set with her signature energy on “Territorial Pissings.”
