Mötley Crüe has secured a major legal win in its dispute with former guitarist Mick Mars. The ruling follows a long conflict that began after Mars stepped away from touring in 2022 due to health issues.
Mars claimed his former bandmates were denying him proper payment and pushed him out of the group. He also argued he was still owed a share of touring income. The band responded that Mars wanted 25% of live revenue despite no longer performing, which they said broke a prior agreement signed by all members.
Claims Over Performances
As the case unfolded, Mars also made claims about the band’s live shows. He alleged that Nikki Sixx “did not play a single note on bass” during the group’s 2022 Stadium Tour. Sixx strongly rejected the accusation at the time.
These statements became part of the wider legal fight, which covered both financial matters and public comments made during interviews.
Arbitrator Sides With Band
An independent arbitrator has now ruled in favor of Mötley Crüe. According to the decision, Mars gave up any right to touring income when he left the group. He was also ordered to pay more than $750,000 in unrecouped tour advances.
In a statement, the band said “the arbitrator’s ruling not only vindicates the band contractually and financially but also dismantles the public narrative Mars promoted in interviews with major outlets.”

Statements From Legal Team
The group added that Mars “was forced to admit under oath that his statements were false,” in relation to the performance claims. “His expert confirmed that the band performed live, and Mars formally recanted his prior claims during sworn testimony.”
Mötley Crüe’s legal team also spoke on the outcome. “This dispute was about protecting the integrity and legacy of one of the most successful bands in rock history,” they said. “With the arbitrator rejecting every claim and enforcing the parties’ agreements as written, the band has been fully vindicated—legally, financially, and factually.”
At the time of reporting, Mars had not publicly responded to the decision. Mötley Crüe is scheduled to tour across the country later this year.
