Matthew Perry’s Family Issues Statement After His Untimely Death

Matthew Perry, the well-known actor famous for his role in the popular TV show Friends, passed away at the age of 54. His family has released a heartfelt statement to share their sorrow.

In a statement provided on Sunday, his family expressed:

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

Matthew Perry’s Childhood

Matthew Perry was the only child of Suzanne Morrison and John Bennett Perry, who separated a year after his birth and both remarried, having more children. He spent most of his upbringing in Canada but later moved to California to live with his father during his teenage years. His dad was also an actor, known for his roles in TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, Days of Our Lives, Falcon Crest, Murder, She Wrote, and more.

John Perry was widely recognized in the 1970s and ’80s for his appearances as the “Old Spice guy” in their commercials, sporting a clean-shaven sailor persona.

In 1998, John Perry made a guest appearance on Friends alongside Matthew, playing the role of Rachel Green’s boyfriend’s father in an episode.

Despite his parents’ divorce over five decades ago, they came together to support their son during his struggles with opioid and alcohol addiction. In a 2022 interview with Diane Sawyer, Matthew Perry recounted a critical moment when he was hospitalized with a burst colon in 2018: “They were both standing at the edge of my bed,” He remembered about his parents. “I was like, ‘Whoa, I must be really sick for this to be happening.'”

Matthew Perry is survived by his parents, his stepfather Keith Morrison, and five half-siblings.
