Is Metallica’s Social Media Hacked? Fans Concerned

There is growing suspicion that Metallica’s official X account may have been hacked, leading to the promotion of a Solana token with the ticker METAL. While the band has not officially confirmed this, the account began posting about the new token around 8 PM ET on Tuesday, June 25. These posts described the token as a groundbreaking new way to enhance event experiences and online shopping, claiming a partnership with Ticketmaster.

Additionally, the posts mentioned a collaboration with a firm called MoonPay. However, MoonPay’s president, Keith Grossman, cautioned the public, stating, “MoonPay does NOT support METAL,” as reported by Coin Telegraph.

Fans were quick to question the authenticity of the posts, and their skepticism is understandable. This is not the first time Metallica’s name has been used in a crypto scam. In 2022, following the announcement of their 72 Seasons album and world tour, scammers took advantage of the band’s trending status. Fake livestreams, YouTube channels, and “Metallica Crypto” giveaways surfaced, aimed at deceiving fans and potentially causing financial losses. Metallica had to release a statement back then, warning fans to be vigilant.

For many people, the surge in bitcoin frauds is cause for alarm, particularly when the schemes take advantage of well-known companies like Metallica’s popularity. It is urged that before accepting any offers, fans exercise caution and confirm the legitimacy of such campaigns through official channels.
