Fans Are Contemplating If Jeremy Allen White Will Sing In Springsteen Biopic

The main question now is whether or not Jeremy Allen White, who has been cast as Bruce Springsteen, will sing in the upcoming biopic, which centers on the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska.

“We’re gonna try,” White shared with Variety at Tuesday’s premiere of his TV show The Bear. “We’re gonna try our best.”

The film, titled Deliver Me to Nowhere, is rumored to feature Paul Walter Hauser (known for Black Bird and Richard Jewell) as Springsteen’s long-time guitar tech Mike Batlan, and Odessa Young (from High Life and The Stand) as a love interest. The movie is directed by Scott Cooper and is based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name.

White mentioned that he hasn’t met Springsteen yet, and that’s been an intentional decision. He said:

“We’ve communicated a little bit through some other people, but I hope this still all comes together.
“We’ve got some timing stuff to work out, and I’m trying to have a bit of my own process with it before meeting the man, too. I wanna try to have an understanding, so when I meet him, I’ll have a bit of confidence somewhere in me to stand there.”

The Unseen E Street Band Sessions

In late 1981 and early 1982, Bruce Springsteen recorded a series of four-track song sketches to later record them with the E Street Band. They rehearsed the songs, and drummer Max Weinberg praised the results, calling them “hard-edged” in a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone.

However, Springsteen chose to release the stripped-down demos as they were, resulting in the platinum-selling, Top 5 hit album Nebraska. “As great as it was, it wasn’t what Bruce wanted to release,” Weinberg noted, adding that a full-band version of Nebraska exists but remains unreleased.

Some tracks from the Electric Nebraska sessions ended up on Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. album. Despite this, Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, believes the band’s version of Nebraska will likely never be released, stating:

“In my judgment, the right version of Nebraska came out.”
