Hundreds Dress as Ozzy Osbourne for Wild Mardi Gras Tribute

Hundreds of Ozzy Osbourne descended on New Orleans during Mardi Gras this week, as fans paid tribute to the legendary Black Sabbath frontman in one of the festival’s most striking spectacles. The mass homage took place during the Krewe of Muses parade, where participants marched through the city dressed head-to-toe as the Prince of Darkness.

Videos from the event quickly went viral, showing the group known as the Dead Rock Stars dancing alongside a themed float and banners celebrating Ozzy Osbourne. Adding a layer of playful authenticity, the parade’s Grand Marshal was portrayed by a participant dressed as Sharon Osbourne. The real Sharon Osbourne later shared footage of the procession on her Instagram story, amplifying the moment to a global audience.

Inside the Dead Rock Stars Tradition

According to the Dead Rock Stars’ Facebook page, the group is an all-male dance crew that reunites annually for the Muses parade. Each year, they select a late rock icon to honor, committing fully to the theme through coordinated costumes, choreography, and music. For 2026, the choice was unanimous: Ozzy Osbourne.

Participation is open to anyone willing to sign up and purchase the official costume tied to that year’s honoree. As the group explains on its website:

“Each year, we pay tribute to a different rock icon who’s left their mark on music history. We may not be the 610 Stompers, but we bring the energy, the moves and a little whiskey to keep the party going. Rock in peace, dance in style!”

This year’s parade featured 225 participants, all dancing to a rolling playlist of Ozzy solo tracks and songs from Black Sabbath, with “Paranoid” reportedly played — and danced to — several times along the route.

A Personal Tribute From Ozzy’s Inner Circle

Among those dressed as Ozzy was Stephen Rea, a longtime friend of the singer who knew him for more than four decades. Speaking with the BBC, Rea said honoring Osbourne this year felt inevitable.

“There was only ever going to be one choice this year… The greatest rock singer the world’s ever seen,” Rea said.

He also hinted at future plans to celebrate Osbourne’s legacy overseas.

“I would love to get everybody across for Ozzy’s celebration in July in Birmingham. With the one-year anniversary, I think there are plans for that.”

Rea added that members of the Osbourne family were reportedly in attendance at the Mardi Gras parade, though he did not specify which relatives were present. Together, the spectacle underscored how deeply Ozzy Osbourne’s influence still resonates — not just in heavy metal, but across generations of fans willing to dress like him and dance through the streets in his honor.
