Fans of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl were taken aback when he recently confessed to infidelity and fathering a child outside his marriage. The revelation shocked many, especially as Grohl has often been viewed as a family man. Now, resurfaced footage shows what may be one of his last public appearances with his wife, Jordyn Blum, before his announcement.
The video, captured by a BBC Sport reporter, shows Grohl at the Wimbledon Championships in July. While many attendees were excited about the high-profile matches, Grohl appeared annoyed when asked for his predictions on the winners. The reporter attempted to engage him with a simple question, “Dave, can I quickly get your prediction for a Wimbledon winner, please?” Grohl, with a puzzled look, responded curtly with “What?” After a few more attempts to get a response, the musician finally shrugged off the question with, “No clue” for the men’s tournament and “Couldn’t say” for the women’s.
Grohl’s unusually short and irritable demeanor sparked reactions on social media. Many noted that his behavior was uncharacteristic, with one TikTok user commenting, “Dave has been acting slightly p***y recently.” Some fans defended him, attributing his mood to recent personal losses, including the deaths of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022 and his mother in August of the same year. Others believed Grohl’s terse replies were merely his way of being humorous or perhaps due to his unfamiliarity with tennis. “He’s not being pissy; he simply hasn’t a clue about who is playing,” suggested one fan.
In addition to his behavior, Grohl’s attire at Wimbledon caught attention. Known for his rocker style, the former Nirvana drummer surprised everyone by donning a navy blue striped suit with a white shirt and a yellow-and-black patterned tie. The look was completed with tortoiseshell-framed glasses, though he added a touch of his signature style with tan Dolce & Gabbana loafers. Beside him, Blum looked equally stylish in a lilac blazer paired with a matching midi dress.
Since this Wimbledon appearance, Grohl and Blum have not been seen together publicly. Grohl’s recent confession, where he admitted to having fathered a child with another woman, has left fans speculating about the current state of his marriage. In his Instagram post to his 1.4 million followers, Grohl shared, “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.” He also expressed his commitment to his family, adding:
“I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Grohl and Blum have been together since 2001 and married since 2003. They share three daughters: Violet, 18; Harper, 15; and Ophelia, 10. Following Grohl’s admission of his affair, his two older daughters, Violet and Harper, removed their social media profiles, likely to avoid public scrutiny.
This isn’t the first time Grohl has admitted to infidelity. In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, he confessed to cheating on his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood, to whom he was married from 1994 until their separation in 1996 and eventual divorce in 1997. Grohl has often credited his second wife, Blum, and their children for grounding him. In a 2012 interview with TIME, he remarked, “[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.” He also noted how his family had influenced his music and life, saying:
“When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
Blum herself has occasionally collaborated with the Foo Fighters. She appeared in their 2002 music video for “White Limo” and co-directed the video for “Walking a Line.” Despite these creative ventures together, Grohl initially had reservations about committing to a relationship with her. As he told Elle in 2007:
“After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.'”
Grohl has been in the headlines for more than just his personal life. Earlier this year, he made waves when he criticized Taylor Swift during a Foo Fighters concert, referring to her tour as the “errors” tour and emphasizing that his band plays live music. He quipped:
“We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few f***ing errors as well. Just a couple.”
Additionally, Grohl made his political stance clear when he announced that any royalties earned from former President Donald Trump using Foo Fighters’ song “My Hero” would be donated to the Kamala Harris campaign. In response to Trump using their song at a rally, the band stated to Billboard, “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it,” adding that any royalties received would be donated to support Harris and her campaign.
As Grohl navigates the fallout from his recent revelations and focuses on regaining the trust of his family, fans and the media alike are left to ponder the rock star’s evolving public image.
