Known to many, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox played husband and wife as the characters Chandler Bing and Monica Geller on the long-running NBC sitcom, Friends. Sadly, Perry shocked the world when he passed away from an apparent drowning at his home in Los Angeles, California.
Many famous stars have expressed their thoughts on his sudden death, and some of them even made their tribute to show their love for the late actor. One of them was Cox, who played his wife in the sitcom.
Last Tuesday, Cox shared a scene from one of Friends’ episodes that featured their characters who are getting together for the very first time. In the snippet, Cox’s character was hiding underneath a blanket in bed with Perry’s character to hide their hookup when Ross, played by David Schwimmer, suddenly entered the room. When Ross was gone, Monica eventually popped up from underneath to ask Chandler if Ross knew that she was there.
Along with the video that was aired on television, Cox also added a behind-the-scene clip of what happened after they cut the scene, including her telling Perry to go under the blanket as it was “his turn.” Cox can be heard saying: “He told me to say that, he really did.”
In the caption, Cox wrote:
“When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”
She continued:
“To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.
“In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind, I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.”
Before her Instagram post, Cox’s co-star, Matt LeBlanc, also posted a message for the late actor. LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani, posted a carousel of photos from scenes he had with Perry. LeBlanc wrote:
“It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never.”
The entire cast who attended Perry’s funeral last November 3 also made a joint statement shortly after Perry’s death. The statement read:
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.
“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
