Celebrating a Landmark Album

Bob Dylan is being honored this year with a major musical event marking the 60th anniversary of his 1966 double album Blonde on Blonde. The record includes well-known songs like “Visions of Johanna” and “Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again,” and it remains one of the most talked-about releases in his long career. The anniversary is being recognized with a special tribute concert designed to highlight the album’s lasting influence.

The Bob Dylan Center confirmed the event in an Instagram post shared on Jan. 13. The post announced a “major multi-artist concert” set for Feb. 20 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa “in celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of Bob Dylan’s classic album Blonde on Blonde.” The venue has a long history tied to American music and provides a fitting setting.

A Diverse Group of Performers

According to the announcement, the show will bring together “an exciting array of musicians for whom Bob Dylan and his 1966 double-disc landmark remain marvels of omnivorous musicality and lyrical brilliance.” The lineup reflects Dylan’s wide reach across genres, generations, and styles.

Artists scheduled to perform include The Cactus Blossoms, Fantastic Negrito, Craig Finn, Joy Harjo, La Marisoul, and The Walkmen. The evening will be hosted by Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper, who will serve as emcee. Each performer is expected to bring a different approach while honoring Dylan’s work.

Music From Across Dylan’s Career

Organizers said the concert will “highlight all of the songs on Blonde on Blonde, as well as an assortment of other Dylan songs from across his expansive discography.” This approach allows the event to focus on the album while also placing it within the larger scope of Dylan’s output.

The Bob Dylan Center has taken a similar approach in past celebrations. In 2024, the venue hosted a concert marking the 50th anniversary of Blood on the Tracks. That event featured performances by Elvis Costello, Sharon Van Etten, Lucinda Williams, Adam Granduciel, and others.

Reflections From the Dylan Center

Steven Jenkins, senior director of the Bob Dylan Center, spoke about the album’s ongoing impact in comments shared by ABC Audio. “Sixty years on from its initial release, Blonde on Blonde still sounds like the future,” Jenkins said. “Dylan’s pursuit of what he called ‘that thin wild mercury sound’ led him to create this extraordinary double album, which our amazing roster of guest artists will transform anew.”

Ticket access for the concert will begin with a presale for Bob Dylan Center members on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. local time. Remaining tickets will be made available Friday.
