AC/DC welcomes Chris Chaney as their new bassist as they set to embark on their Power Up European tour after an eight-year hiatus from touring. This marks their first live performance since 2016 and is scheduled to run from May to August.
The announcement came after the departure of their longtime bassist Cliff Williams. Chaney worked with Ozzy Osbourne and appeared at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards with Miley Cyrus, and is best known for his work with Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette, Shakira, Elton John, Slash, and many others.
Aside from Chaney, the lineup for the tour features familiar faces such as lead vocalist Brian Johnson and guitarists Angus and Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug. While longtime drummer Phil Rudd is absent from recent performances, the lineup adjustments ensure that AC/DC continues to deliver their signature sound and energy on stage.
The band announced on their official website:
“We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘POWER UP’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff. The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”
The tour announcement comes after a week of AC/DC posting teasers on social media pages. The 21-date outing kicks off on May 17th in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and runs through an August 17th show in Dublin, Ireland. Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 16th.
