Why Bob Dylan Biopic Lost All Categories At Golden Globes

via SearchlightPictures / Youtube

The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown was a major contender at the Golden Globe Awards, but it ultimately walked away empty-handed, losing in all three categories it was nominated for. Expectations were sky-high, especially for Timothée Chalamet, who had been generating a lot of buzz for his portrayal of the legendary singer. Many had pegged the 29-year-old as the frontrunner for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, but the prestigious award instead went to Adrien Brody for the movie, The Brutalist.

Edward Norton and The Brutalist Take Home Honors

Edward Norton, who plays Pete Seeger in the film, faced a similar fate. Despite being nominated for Best Supporting Actor – Drama, he lost out the Globe to Kieran Culkin, who won for the film A Real Pain. Norton had previously won a Golden Globe in 1997 for his role in Primal Fear. As for Best Picture – Drama, the coveted honor went to The Brutalist, leaving A Complete Unknown without any wins.

Chalamet’s Performance Earns Praise from the Public

Despite the disappointing Golden Globe results, Chalamet’s performance received plenty of praise. He described playing Dylan as “the most unique challenge I’ve taken on,” adding that his confidence grew as he performed all the music live. To prepare, Chalamet worked for years with dialect and harmonica coaches, and his dedication to capturing Dylan’s essence was clear. “Bob wanted to be a rock ’n’ roll star – Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley… Equally, I wanted to be a big movie actor,” Chalamet shared. “I’m now deep in the church of Bob, and I feel like I get this opportunity to kinda be a bridge to this music.”

While Chalamet didn’t snag a Golden Globe this time, the actor’s passion and dedication to the role have earned him lasting admiration from fans and critics alike.
