The rock world came together in a powerful and emotional farewell to Ozzy Osbourne on July 30, as friends, family, and musical legends gathered to honor the life and legacy of the iconic frontman. The funeral, held in Buckinghamshire, England, was both a private affair and a public moment of reflection, streamed to fans worldwide as a final sendoff for the Black Sabbath co-founder.
A Procession Fit for a Metal Legend
The streets of Birmingham—Ozzy’s hometown—saw an outpouring of love as the funeral procession passed through, pausing at the now-iconic Black Sabbath Bench. There, members of the Osbourne family placed flowers in tribute to the man who forever changed the landscape of heavy music.
Fans watched in person and via livestream as the somber procession made its way through the city, marking a moment that felt as monumental as Ozzy’s impact on music itself.
Who Was There to Say Goodbye?
The ceremony itself was closed to the public, reserved for roughly 110 of Ozzy’s closest friends and loved ones. Among the mourners were his fellow Black Sabbath bandmates—Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler—as well as longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde, who stood by Ozzy for decades both on and off stage.
A who’s who of rock royalty also turned out to pay their respects: Metallica’s James Hetfield, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Elton John, and Yungblud were all reportedly in attendance, according to The Sun.
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who played with Ozzy in the ’90s, had confirmed via social media that he would be present. Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson—who is engaged to Kelly Osbourne—was also spotted during the livestream.
“Ozzy’s service was a beautiful tribute. As well as tears, there was laughter,” a family friend told The Sun. “Toasts were raised, memories were shared — it was a very fitting goodbye.”
Marilyn Manson later shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Today we laid to rest a beloved friend. I am eternally grateful that you let me into your life, Ozzy. Your inspiration and love will always be with me. Thank you Sharon and family for a reverent, beautiful ceremony. Your legacy lives on.”
The Final Stage: Where the Service Took Place
Ozzy’s funeral was hosted at his home in Buckinghamshire, a location that has become synonymous with the Osbourne family in recent years. Large tents and a stage were set up on the property, where guests were invited to share tributes and memories of the legendary frontman.
“Everyone at the service just wanted to support Sharon and the kids—it has been an awful time,” said another family friend. “Toasts were raised, memories were shared — it was a very fitting goodbye.”
Ozzy’s Resting Place: A Home by the Lake
In a decision that felt deeply personal, Ozzy was buried on his own property, by a lake surrounded by floral arrangements that included a wreath reading “Ozzy Fucking Osbourne” and another simply spelling out “Ozzy.”
“Ozzy wanted his final place of rest to be at home,” a close friend shared. “He is buried at a beautiful point on the lake.”
