“Take It Easy” was the song that launched the Eagles to stardom. Released in May 1972, this famous track also made them one of the best-selling American bands of all time. The story behind this iconic track began a year earlier when Jackson Browne was working on his debut album. However, he found himself stuck on a particular line: “Well, I’m standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.” Browne’s friend and neighbor, Glenn Frey, heard the half-done piece, loved it, and offered to help. After some hesitation, Browne finally handed it over to Frey, who took it to the finish line.
The song was released on May 1, 1972, as the Eagles’ debut single. It became the band’s record-breaking hit, quickly climbing the Billboard charts. It reached No. 12 on July 22, 1972, and spent 11 weeks on the chart that summer. Its success made the single a fan favorite during the Eagle’s concerts. A year later, Jackson Browne included his version of “Take It Easy” on his second album, For Everyman.
“Take It Easy” remains one of The Eagles’ most beloved tracks, featuring Glenn Frey on lead vocals. The song has since been included on all of the band’s live and compilation albums and was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
This 1974 footage features the live performance of the Eagles sharing the stage with Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt. It was truly one of the most legendary moments in rock history. Today, this classic country rock hit continues to resonate with fans, both old and new, with its enduring appeal and the genius of Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne.
