Ozzy Osbourne recently released the 40th anniversary edition of his landmark album “Diary of a Madman”. To celebrate this milestone, the Prince of Darkness released a new animated music video for “Flying High Again,” which honored late guitar legend and bandmate Randy Rhoads. The footage featured photos taken from the book “Randy Rhoads” by Ross Halfin published in September.
Halfin took hundreds of photographs in the late 1970s and early 1980s as he spent time with both Osbourne and Rhoads.
“It’s weird. I only knew Randy Rhoads for a couple of years, but it felt longer. I felt like I knew him for my whole life,” Osbourne said. “I still think about him a lot and I wonder what he would be doing now. I owe him a huge amount — he was the beginning of me. He wasn’t just my guitarist; he was my friend.”
Osbourne also dropped previously unreleased live versions of the songs “Over the Mountain,” “Flying High Again” and “Believer.”
Rhoads passed away on March 19, 1982 at 25 years old. He died in a plane crash while on tour with Osbourne. Even though his career was cut short, he left a rich and stunning legacy in music.
