Jack Osbourne recently shared the painful memory of how he found out about his father’s passing.
“It’s been about 6 weeks since my father passed. I was in Los Angeles. I woke up to a knock on my house door at around 3:45 in the morning.” It wasn’t just anyone knocking. “Someone who’s worked for my family for probably 30 years now was knocking on my door. When I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I just knew, I knew something bad had happened.”
That moment, quiet and dark in the middle of the night, marked a turning point for Jack. It’s the kind of knock that stays with you forever, because in your heart, you already know the news isn’t good.
A Week That Meant Everything
Jack explained that, by chance, he had just been able to spend time at home with his father.
“I’d been back in LA for about a week. After my dad’s show in Birmingham, I stuck around, hung out for a week with the family at the house, my kids, and you know, it was a really amazing week.”
Those days, filled with family moments, became even more precious after his dad passed. Sometimes, life lines up in ways you don’t expect, giving you the chance to create memories that later feel like gifts.
Vacation Plans That Changed
The family had intended to travel right after the Birmingham show.
“My family and I were scheduled to go on vacation. We were supposed to go to Portugal right after the gig. Uh but my kids all got sick, so we cancelled the trip and we just hung out at our family house in England.”
At the time, it might have seemed like an inconvenience, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Staying home meant more time together, time that Jack would later cherish in ways he couldn’t have imagined.
Remembering Ozzy’s Happiness
What Jack recalls most vividly from those last days is his father’s joy.
“My dad was in an amazing mood. He was really happy every day. He was opening up the newspaper and seeing different reviews and different stories from the back to the beginning of the show and it was great.”
Those little moments—smiling at good press, sharing laughter, being around family—captured a side of his father that Jack now holds close. As he put it:
“I’ve never been so grateful for my kids to have the stomach flu as I am.”
