RIP

Eddie Van Halen passed away at 65 years old on October 6 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. His son Wolfgang took to social media to announce the heartbreaking news.

Fans and fellow rockers have paid tribute to the guitar virtuoso. Now, his former bandmates in Van Halen have also honored him. Original singer and frontman David Lee Roth posted a photo of him with EVH with the caption, “What a Long Great Trip It’s Been.”

Original bassist Michael Anthony shared a couple of photos of him and EVH then wrote, “No words…Heartbroken, my love to the family.” Sammy Hagar, who filled in and replaced Roth in 1985, said: “Heartbroken and speechless.” And Gary Cherone, who had a short-lived singing stint with the group, tweeted: “Whether you were blessed to have known him or not, He was a kind and gentle soul… His impact on ALL our lives was immeasurable! His music, eternal! My deepest sympathies to the Van Halen family… Love you Ed #LongLiveTheKing!”

The group’s drummer and Eddie’s brother Alex also shared a special message, “Hey Ed. Love you. See you on the other side. Your brother, Al”
