A Tender Retrospective

Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack released a heartfelt video tribute on YouTube titled “Some Memories of My Father.” The montage opens with footage of a young Jack on Howard Stern’s radio show in 1997, then moves through photos and video clips of their life together, all set to Ozzy’s song “So Tired”.

In the video description, Jack wrote, “I haven’t really wanted to post anything since the passing of my father. My heart has hurt too much,” continuing, “He was so many things to so many people, but I was lucky and blessed to be part of a very small group who got to call him ‘Dad.’ My heart is heavy with sadness and sorrow, but also full of love and gratitude. I got 14,501 days with that man, and I know what a blessing that is.”

Life Reflected in a Quote

Jack also included a quote by Hunter S. Thompson that he felt summed up his father’s approach to life: “Life should not be a journey to the grave… but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke… thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!'” He added simply, “That was my dad. He lived — and he lived fully. I love you Dad.”

The video runs just over two and a half minutes and deeply resonated with fans.

The Cause and Farewell

Ozzy passed away on July 22, at age 76, due to cardiac arrest linked to coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction. A private funeral followed in Birmingham on July 30, and many fans and figures from the music world paid their respects.
