Concert Postponed

Fans in Philadelphia will have to wait a little longer to see The Who perform live. The band announced that its Thursday concert at the Xfinity Mobile Arena has been postponed because of what was described as “an unfortunate cold/flu bug” affecting the group.

A statement explained that the concert will be rescheduled, though a new date has not yet been confirmed. Ticket holders will be able to use their original tickets once the new date is announced.

Part of a Farewell Tour

The postponed show was part of The Who’s “The Song Is Over — North American Farewell Tour,” which the band has said will likely be the last time founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend tour the United States together. The run began on August 16 in Sunrise, Florida, and is scheduled to wrap up on September 28 in Las Vegas.

For many fans, this tour represents a final chance to see the group that helped shape rock music during the 1960s. Philadelphia had been one of the most anticipated stops.

Roger Daltrey on Touring and Health

Daltrey, 81, has spoken openly about the physical demands of being on the road and how it has taken a toll on him in recent years. “This is certainly the last time you will see us on tour,” he said. “It’s grueling. In the days when I was singing Who songs for three hours a night, six nights a week, I was working harder than most footballers.”

The singer also admitted his health has been declining. He is dealing with macular degeneration and hearing issues, both of which make touring more difficult. “I’m not going to be here much longer,” he added. “If I live another 10 years it will be way past anyone in my family.”

Lasting Influence of The Who

The Who remain one of the most influential English rock bands to emerge from the 1960s, leaving behind a catalog that continues to inspire musicians today. Their classic songs include “Behind Blue Eyes,” “My Generation,” “Pinball Wizard,” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
