Farewell Tour Kicks Off in South Florida

The Who is preparing to begin their final U.S. tour, called The Song Is Over, and they’re starting in South Florida. On Saturday, August 16, they will perform at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise. This marks the beginning of their last North American run.

The band recently announced the artists joining them for their 17-date farewell tour. South Florida will get a special treat with actor and musician Billy Bob Thornton and his band, the Boxmasters, opening the night.

Billy Bob Thornton Brings Southern Sound

Billy Bob Thornton is best known for his Oscar-winning film work. But he’s also spent years building a music career rooted in Americana. His band, the Boxmasters, mixes rockabilly with storytelling and Southern style.

The contrast between the Boxmasters’ retro sound and the Who’s high-energy rock could give fans a unique concert experience. It adds some grit and Southern edge to a night that already promises to be full of classic rock power.

Other Special Guests Across the Tour

The full tour lineup shows how far the Who’s influence has reached. Artists from different genres and generations will join them in various cities. Fans can expect to see Billy Idol, Feist, Booker T. Jones, and Candlebox at different stops.

The Joe Perry Project, which includes members of Aerosmith and the Black Crowes, will also perform. In Chicago, guitar legend Joe Bonamassa is now confirmed as a special guest for that show.

A Look Back at the Band’s Legacy

The tour was announced earlier this year at a press conference in London. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend talked about their long history in music, which spans over six decades.

To celebrate the moment, they brought out a special item: the original football helmet used on the cover of their 1974 compilation album Odds & Sods. It was taken from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just for the event.

Tickets and Final Chances

Tickets are now on sale for all dates. Some packages even include access to the band’s soundcheck and exclusive merchandise.

For fans in Miami, this might be the last time to see the Who perform live. And with Billy Bob Thornton on the bill, the night will likely stand out as something unexpected and memorable.
