Dolly Parton, known for her striking style and glamorous outfits, recently shared a humorous experience from a Dolly Parton look-alike competition. In a December 2022 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Parton opened up about her unexpected participation in the event, where she neither won nor even placed but had a memorable time nonetheless.

“Yeah, I thought it’d be fun,” Parton said, explaining her decision to join the competition. She went on to describe the event as a lighthearted opportunity to enjoy some laughs with friends.

“They give you free drinks. You don’t really win anything. So, some friends of ours thought it’d be funny, so I just over-exaggerated; I put a bigger beauty mark, bigger hair, bigger, you know, everything. And I walked across the stage and got a little trickle of applause.”

Parton’s playful approach was met with indifference from the judges, as she humorously noted. “So I lost the contest, but we had a big time because of it. They didn’t even consider me. It was Halloween, you know; everybody was out.” Despite her exaggerated costume and efforts, the genuine Dolly Parton went unnoticed among the sea of look-alikes.

The irony of the situation was not lost on her. The singer, who always dresses to impress, found herself blending in with those trying to emulate her iconic style. Though she didn’t capture the top spot in the competition, Parton and her friends enjoyed the fun of the experience, proving that sometimes, the best part of a contest is the laughter and a dose of fun.

In the same interview with Fallon, the iconic singer also shared how she dresses up as Santa to give gifts to her family and a rumor of a secret song that will be released in 2045. Watch the interview below:
