Morrison Mania Hits Europe

One can’t begin to talk about classic rock without mentioning The Doors and their impact on music culture. Jim Morrison was an enigma, with an amazing stage presence and a haunting voice. That, combined with Jim’s movie star good looks, catapulted The Doors into superstardom with the release of ‘Light My Fire’.

‘Light My Fire’ is seen performed live by The Doors in 1968, and it’s one of my favorite performances. Ray Manzarek is absolutely shredding on the organ, and in between vocals you can see Jim Morrison flirting with the girls in the crowd – when he puts the microphone to their mouths all you hear are screams. It’s like Beatle-mania, but for one guy!

Jim Morrison hated ‘Light My Fire’ and resented having to perform it. He also hated the success of the song, especially the fact that he only had a small part in writing it.

Wow – we never really knew that Jim wasn’t the brainchild behind the song. While we’re sad that he hated it so much, we’re glad it was written – we love it!

‘Light My Fire’ was the last song Jim performed. It was at the Warehouse in New Orleans.

Fitting how the song he hated so much became the last song he’d ever sing!

We miss Jim Morrison, and we miss The Doors. However, we’re so very glad that both existed and rocked us during their short time!

+ Light My Fire lyrics +

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
