Summertime, And The Livin’ Is Easy…

I’m a fan of acoustic renditions in general, but for some reason I’m really loving this particular acoustic rendition of Janis Joplin’s ‘Summertime’. Originally recorded by Billie Holiday, ‘Summertime’ is a slow, swampy blues ballad that makes you think of – wait for it – summertime. Janis put her own bluesy, smoky spin on it and breathed new life into an old classic.

The rendition seen in this amazing video features a young lady named Jackie putting her own unique spin on this swampy blues classic, and while it’s nothing we expected, we like that!

The Beginnings Of Summertime

Written by George and Ira Gershwin in 1935, this soothing standard was featured in the folk opera Porgy and Bess, which started as a novel called Porgy. Janis Joplin’s rendition became one of the most famous after her 1968 recording with Big Brother and The Holding Company.

While this acoustic lacks the bluesy influence it was born with and instead sports a delicate folksy feel, I think that this young lady is well on her way! She’s no Janis, but I think that’s what Janis would have liked most of all.
