New Studio Album Circling From Above Extends Styx’s Legacy

Beyond the stage, Styx continues to expand its musical catalog with the release of Circling From Above, the band’s 18th studio album, out now via Alpha Dog 2T/UMe. The album includes 13 tracks that explore the tension between humanity, technology, and nature—fitting themes for a band long known for their conceptual leanings.

Critics have hailed Circling From Above as the third installment in a trilogy of modern-day Styx masterworks, following 2021’s Crash of the Crown and 2017’s The Mission. The album features contributions from all seven members of the current lineup: founding guitarist and vocalist James “JY” Young, guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw, original bassist Chuck Panozzo, drummer Todd Sucherman, keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan, guitarist/vocalist Will Evankovich, and bassist Terry Gowan.

Whether it’s the progressive grandeur of “The Grand Illusion,” the working-class grit of “Blue Collar Man,” or the anthemic crescendo of “Come Sail Away,” Styx continues to deliver arena-ready performances with both polish and passion. With new music fueling their creative fire and a return to one of Las Vegas’s most iconic venues, Styx is showing no signs of slowing down.
