Can You Imagine Being Paid That Much Per Day?

According to a statement made by rapper Diddy, he pays Sting $5,000 every day for using a sample of The Police’s popular song “Every Breath You Take” on his own song “I’ll Be Missing You” released in 1997. It was later confirmed in 2014 that Diddy (previously known as Puff Daddy) was paying $2,000 per day as he did not seek permission to use the sample before releasing the song. As a result, Sting is entitled to all the royalties from the song, which has won a Grammy, and currently amounts to more than $1.8 million per year.

Sting talked about his earnings from the sample in 2003, mentioning that he was making $730,000 annually from it. He claimed that artists like Diddy often use someone else’s work without permission and deal with the legal aspects later. Elton John had informed him about the sample and predicted that he would become twice as wealthy. Sting, who was already a millionaire, had used the money to support his children’s college education. He also mentioned that he and Diddy maintained a friendly relationship.

Talk about making it rain.
