Stevie Ray Vaughan – Voodoo Child

Stevie Ray Vaughan – Voodoo Child | Society Of Rock Videos

There’s nothing quite like seeing a legend pay homage to another legend

Stevie Ray Vaughan was a musical powerhouse, taking on the Jimi Hendrix classic “Voodoo Child” and putting his own bluesy, gritty spin on it while still showing respect to the man who influenced his career when he was still a young child.

His sheer technical skill and musical prowess are enough to inspire you to pick up a guitar for the first time…and never put it back down!

Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” was written and recorded by Jimi Hendrix in ’68 and was featured on Electric Ladyland as a predominantly instrumental piece featuring Jimi’s vocals. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble recorded their cover in ’84, and featured it on both, Couldn’t Stand the Weather andLive Alive.

It’s clear that if there was ever a guitarist alive that could match Jimi Hendrix note for note, it was Stevie.

+Voodoo Child lyrics below+

Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
Chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise just a little sand
‘Cause I’m a voodoo child
Lord knows I’m a voodoo child

I didn’t mean to take you up all your sweet time
I’ll give it right back to you one of these days
I said, I didn’t mean to take you up all your sweet time
I’ll give it right back to you one of these days
And if I don’t meet you no more in this world
Then I’ll, I’ll meet you in the next one
And don’t be late, don’t be late
‘Cause I’m a voodoo child
Lord knows I’m a voodoo child
I’m a voodoo child
