On July 24th, Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks took to the stage in Glasgow for the final night of her UK tour, addressing fans about the reason behind the unexpected postponement of her earlier performance at the OVO Hydro.
The show was initially slated for July 6th, but just hours before it was supposed to begin, the concert was unexpectedly delayed, leaving thousands of fans disheartened. Many had traveled from afar and arranged accommodations, only to be left disappointed. Affected fans were given the option to secure refunds, but the abrupt change still caused significant inconvenience.
In addition to the Glasgow show, Nicks also rescheduled her concert at Manchester’s newly-opened Co-Op Live, which was originally set for July 9th but took place a week later on July 16th. At the time, the reason for the delay was only briefly explained. The official statement read:
“Due to a recent leg injury requiring a minor surgical procedure that will need a few days of recovery time, Stevie Nicks’ scheduled performances in Glasgow Saturday 6 July and Manchester Tuesday 9 July have been postponed.”
The previous month, Nicks had also canceled a performance at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania, citing “illness in the band” as the reason. After a short break, she returned to the stage on July 12th for a major headline show at BST Hyde Park, where she performed alongside Harry Styles, singing “Landslide” and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.”
While Nicks kept details of her health issues under wraps during the Hyde Park performance, she was more candid with the Glasgow audience. After expressing her excitement to finally be performing in Glasgow, Nicks explained the delay with a heartfelt apology. “I don’t know what happened. I just got this weird infection, and it just went crazy,” she told the crowd. Nicks shared that she had been staying at a “fabulous castle” in Scotland, where everything was going smoothly until she had to rush to the hospital.
She recounted the experience, saying:
“I finally just looked at my assistant, it was like two in the morning, and said, ‘I think we need to go to emergency.’ She looked at me and I just said, ‘I’m not kidding! I think we need to go to the hospital.’ And so our butler, this wonderful man, threw us in his BMW Sedan, and off we sped through the night to a hospital.”
Nicks revealed that she spent two days recovering in the hospital before being allowed to return to the castle. She emphasized her commitment to the tour, saying:
“This whole tour I’ve been fighting what started here, and I would be damned if I wasn’t coming back here.”
Despite the challenges and the rescheduled performances, Nicks’ dedication to her fans shone through. Her Glasgow performance showed her commitment to her fans and passion for music. A review of her Hyde Park concert highlighted the emotional depth of her performance:
“Beyond remembering her own career through the display of her various costumes and the performance of her decade-spanning hits, the show is heavy with a sense of grief, responsibility and bittersweet celebration.”
