An Unlikely Duo
Comedy legend Steve Martin has surprised fans by teaming up with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler for a new acoustic track. Known for his sharp wit and musical talent, Martin announced the collaboration on Facebook, revealing that he plays the banjo on the acoustic version of Tyler’s new song, “My Only Angel (feat. Steve Martin)”.
“I’m playing banjo on a Steven Tyler song! Here’s our text exchange for no particular reason,” Martin wrote, posting a snippet of the track along with screenshots of their hilarious text conversation. The song, which also features YUNGBLUD, appears on Aerosmith’s upcoming EP One More Time with YUNGBLUD, set for release on November 21, 2025. Since its preview, it has already climbed to No. 1 on the Hard Rock streaming charts, showing fans’ excitement over this unusual yet entertaining partnership.
The Text Exchange Fans Can’t Stop Laughing At
In his post, Martin shared the full text conversation with Tyler — which reads like a comedy sketch in itself.
Tyler: “Steve…have you had a chance to…”
Martin: “I have not gotten the song! I wrote you but didn’t hear back. Oh, I think I mistyped a number. Can you send it now?”
Tyler: “We did the same thing…sending again…right now… ST.”
Martin: “Made for each other.”
Tyler: “And then some…”
Martin: “Still no song….. ah…got it. Hang on.”
Tyler: “Hip hip.”
Later, Tyler followed up with a heartfelt message of thanks:
“Steve… thank you soooo much for playing along with the song… we laid it in and WA LA… you made the acoustic version of the song so, so much better… Now that’s something to talk about on Kimmel… so love your spirit… yess hahhhh!”
Fans React to the Unexpected Collaboration
Fans quickly filled the comments section with laughter and love for the two icons. One fan wrote, “Can you imagine being the person who got the mistyped number and received a text from Steve Martin? Or Steven Tyler? 😂” Another added, “What?! Yes! I love it already and can only hear a few seconds. 🤘.”
Others made jokes about the pair’s exchange: “This is the most baby boomer text thread I’ve ever read. 🤣♥️.” One fan even quipped, “And now… ‘Love in an Elevator’ for banjo.”
A Comedian with Real Musical Talent
Though many know Martin for The Jerk, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Father of the Bride, his love of music — especially the banjo — runs deep. He’s earned three Grammy Awards for his work, including Best Bluegrass Album for The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo and Best American Roots Song for Love Has Come for You.
With Emmy-nominated acting, sixteen Saturday Night Live hosting appearances, and now a high-profile rock collaboration, Martin once again shows that his creativity knows no limits — whether through humor or harmony.
