A Massive Night for Rock Legends
The Back to the Beginning event, held on July 5, was one of the most highly anticipated heavy metal concerts in recent memory. It served as a grand farewell for both Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. The nine-hour celebration brought together some of rock and metal’s biggest names.
Fans witnessed performances from Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Halestorm, and Lamb of God. These artists performed tribute sets, played short showcases, and formed one-time supergroups throughout the night to honor Ozzy and Sabbath’s long careers.
Supergroups and Surprise Collaborations
Several short performances featured guest stars playing Sabbath and Ozzy tracks. Billy Corgan led one of the most talked-about supergroups of the night. But the buzz quickly shifted when Steven Tyler returned to the stage with a standout three-song set. He was joined by Ronnie Wood, Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello, and Andrew Watt.
Tyler had been off the road following a vocal cord injury that caused Aerosmith to cancel their farewell tour. But he appeared in full control and hit every note with strength. Backed by some of the most respected guitarists in rock, Tyler proved he hadn’t lost any of his edge.

Tyler Steals the Spotlight
Steven Tyler’s short but memorable set included “The Train Kept A-Rollin’,” Aerosmith’s classic “Walk This Way,” and a surprise cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Fans responded with loud cheers as Tyler showed no signs of strain or rust from his time away from the stage.
His energy and vocals matched the moment. Each song reminded fans of his power as a live performer. The crowd was fully engaged from start to finish, and Tyler’s voice rang out clearly, even in the massive outdoor venue.
Guitar Heroes Light Up the Stage
Ronnie Wood, who had recently performed with Rod Stewart at Glastonbury 2025, brought his bluesy guitar style to Tyler’s opening song. His playing fit perfectly with the loose, groove-driven feel of “The Train Kept A-Rollin’.”
For the second and third songs, Wood stepped aside. Nuno Bettencourt, Andrew Watt, and Tom Morello took over guitar duties. Watt played an SG and Morello brought his Arm the Homeless Superstrat. Together, they powered through “Walk This Way” and “Whole Lotta Love” with precision and energy. The combined sound of these players helped make Tyler’s return one of the most talked-about parts of the night.
