Opening Tribute

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry joined an all-star group at the MTV Video Music Awards to honor Ozzy Osbourne with a heartfelt performance of “Mama I’m Coming Home.” The live segment followed a moving introduction that looked back on Osbourne’s remarkable career and lasting influence.

Before the music began, fans saw a video message from Osbourne’s son Jack. “I know for sure it would make him incredibly happy to see these great musicians carry on his legacy and help inspire the next generation of rockers,” Jack said. He added, “I’d like to give a special shout out to Dom [Yungblud], Nuno, Steve and Joe from Aerosmith. We love you, Dad.”

Powerful Collaborations

The live tribute began with Yungblud and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt leading the charge. They performed a fiery version of “Crazy Train,” Osbourne’s debut solo single, followed by a striking take on Black Sabbath’s “Changes.” Both songs showcased the energy and respect the performers carried into the night.

When Tyler and Perry stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere shifted into a finale that carried deep emotion. They joined Yungblud and Bettencourt for a rendition of Osbourne’s 1991 classic “Mama, I’m Coming Home.” Tyler’s vocals blended with Yungblud’s, while Bettencourt supported Perry on acoustic guitar, giving the moment both power and intimacy.

Honoring Osbourne’s Legacy

The tribute carried extra weight, as Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76. His death followed years of health struggles, including Parkinson’s disease and several injuries. Despite these challenges, he continued to perform, appearing just weeks before his passing at the Back to the Beginning concert.

That event saw him take the stage both as a solo artist and with the original lineup of Black Sabbath. Surrounded by a lineup of major hard rock and heavy metal acts, he delivered performances that reminded fans of his lasting presence in the genre. The MTV tribute carried that same spirit, with artists from different generations uniting to celebrate the music and influence of the “Prince of Darkness.”
