Netflix has released the trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, and it once again highlights the show’s love for classic rock. Set in 1987, the final chapter follows the town of Hawkins as it prepares for a last stand against Vecna and the dark forces of the Upside Down. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has placed the town under military lockdown and is hunting for Eleven, forcing her into hiding.
Deep Purple’s “Child in Time” Sets the Mood
The trailer is backed by a powerful, reworked version of Deep Purple’s “Child in Time,” originally from their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock. The dramatic song fits well with the trailer’s fast-paced shots of supernatural chaos and military conflict, setting a dark and emotional tone for what promises to be an intense conclusion to the series.
A Long History of Rock and Metal in the Show
Stranger Things has consistently featured iconic rock and metal tracks throughout its run. In season 4, Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” played a major role during a climactic scene, boosting the song’s streaming numbers dramatically. The show has also included music from Journey, Toto, Peter Gabriel, The Clash, Bon Jovi, and more. One of the most notable examples was Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which became a global hit again after being featured prominently in season 4.
The fifth season will be released in three parts. Volume 1 is set to premiere on November 26, Volume 2 will arrive on Christmas Day, and the series finale is scheduled for New Year’s Eve, bringing the Duffer Brothers’ beloved series to a close.
