At their show in Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena on Wednesday, September 24, UK masked metal band Sleep Token delivered a surprise to their fans by performing a live cover of Bruce Springsteen’s classic 1984 hit “Dancing In The Dark.” Frontman Vessel, known for his mysterious persona, infused the track with the band’s signature emotional intensity, marking the first time Sleep Token has ever played the song in front of a live audience. This unexpected addition brought a fresh layer to their dynamic setlist.

Touring in Support of Even In Arcadia

Currently on a sold-out North American tour, Sleep Token are promoting their fourth studio album, Even In Arcadia, which was released earlier this year through RCA Records. Although critics offered mixed opinions, the album achieved remarkable commercial success, topping the charts across 11 countries, including the US, UK, Australia, Germany, and Canada. The tour kicked off on September 16 in Duluth, Georgia, where the band premiered two new songs, Provider and Infinite Baths. The itinerary continues with stops at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on September 26 and wraps up at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on October 11.

Sleep Token’s Unique Approach to Covers

While “Dancing In The Dark” represents their first live take on a Springsteen song, Sleep Token have long been known for their distinctive reinterpretations of well-known tracks. In 2017, they offered a haunting and sensual rendition of Outkast’s Hey Ya!. Vessel has also showcased his vocal range and emotional depth by performing intimate versions of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and Billie Eilish’s When The Party’s Over during exclusive ‘From The Room Below’ sessions.

Springsteen originally released “Dancing In The Dark” in May 1984 as the lead single from his landmark album Born In The USA. The song became his biggest US hit at that time, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, it has gone on to receive multi-platinum certifications in both the United States and the United Kingdom, solidifying its status as one of rock’s enduring anthems.
