A Long-Awaited Return to the Studio

Slash has confirmed that a new Guns N’ Roses album is finally on the way. In a new interview with Guitar World, the legendary guitarist said the band has been steadily building material since reuniting nearly a decade ago.

“There’s so much material at this point — it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it,” Slash told the magazine. “But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, ‘We’re going to take this time, and we’re going to do this.’ Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart.”

Slash, who rejoined the band alongside bassist Duff McKagan in 2016, explained that the group’s creative process often happens spontaneously. Despite the uncertainty, he made one thing clear: “So it’s coming. It’ll just happen when it happens.”

Reuniting and Reigniting the Sound

When Guns N’ Roses regrouped in 2016, the focus was mainly on touring. Fans were eager to see Slash, McKagan, and Axl Rose share the stage again after decades apart. For years, the band avoided talk of new music, concentrating instead on global tours that drew massive crowds.

Their first post-reunion release came in 2018 with “Shadow of Your Love,” a long-lost recording from the Appetite for Destruction sessions. It appeared alongside the album’s 30th-anniversary reissue and box set, giving fans a taste of the band’s early fire.

Revisiting the Past, Building the Future

In 2021, the band surprised fans by debuting “Absurd” live before releasing its studio version. Shortly after came “Hard Skool,” another reworked outtake from the Chinese Democracy era. Both tracks featured the reunited lineup, marking the band’s first studio work together in decades.

By late 2023, Guns N’ Roses dropped two more revived tracks — “Perhaps” and “The General.” Though all of these songs came from earlier sessions, they hinted that new material might not be far behind. The band has since suggested that even more reworked tracks could follow soon.

Looking Ahead to What’s Next

Slash spoke again about the band’s studio work while promoting his solo album Orgy of the Damned in 2024. “Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record,” he told NME. “And I’m working with them in that capacity, but this didn’t involve anyone else. It was my own side thing, so I wasn’t dragging my own guys in.”

Currently, Guns N’ Roses have only a handful of 2025 South American tour dates confirmed. After a year off the road in 2024 and a run of European shows this past summer, fans are hoping that 2026 will mark the band’s full return — with a long-awaited new album finally in hand.
