One year after Sinéad O’Connor’s death, the exact cause has been revealed. The Irish singer, known for her powerful voice and emotive performances, passed away on July 26 last year at the age of 56. She was found unresponsive in her home by police and was laid to rest in Bray, Ireland. Her funeral saw tributes from notable figures such as Bob Geldof and Bono.

Initially, coroners confirmed in January that O’Connor had died of natural causes. However, the detailed causes have now been released. According to the Irish Independent, O’Connor’s death certificate, registered by her ex-husband John Reynolds, states that she died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The certificate also mentioned that she had been suffering from a “lower-grade respiratory tract infection.” Julian Morris, senior coroner for Inner South London, certified her death after a post-mortem examination without an inquest.

Following her passing, tributes poured in from fellow musicians and fans worldwide. Garbage, Michael Stipe, and Ice-T were among those who honored her memory. Billy Corgan, in particular, reflected on his friendship with O’Connor, praising her exceptional talent.

“People realize now that we lost someone who probably should have gotten more attention and support when she was here,” he said. “Because her gift was so rare. Her incredible gift of singing had a direct line to her heart. That’s so rare in singers. Most singers are actors. Sinéad was not an actor.”

In other news, a Dublin wax museum has apologized and removed their Sinéad O’Connor figure after backlash. The figure had been criticized for its inaccurate portrayal, leading to public outcry and demands for its removal.

Among Sinéad O’Connor’s well-loved classic hits include “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Mandinka.” She has undoubtedly left a legacy and impact on the music industry, not just with her unique voice, style, and authenticity, but also with her advocacies.
