Sebastian Bach Vows to Keep Rock Real, Slams Musicians Using AI in Music Production

Sebastian Bach, the former lead vocalist of Skid Row, has openly condemned the increasing use of artificial intelligence in music creation, reaffirming his dedication to genuine, human artistry. In a recent interview with Surviving Rocklahoma, Bach expressed his concerns about AI’s expanding role in the industry and its potential impact on musicianship.

Preferring Imperfection Over Artificial Precision

Bach described the current trend toward AI-generated music as a cause for alarm among artists. “In the past few months, we’ve entered an AI era that’s scaring a lot of musicians,” he stated. “Now it seems anyone can simply input a prompt—like ‘create a ’70s rock song about partying and women’—and instantly get a track.”

He made it clear that he has no plans to incorporate AI in his work. “I promise my fans this: I will never use AI,” Bach asserted. “I won’t even give you an ‘I’ or an ‘A.’ I’d much rather have a genuine human flaw than flawless artificial perfection. That’s what you’ll always get from me as long as I’m making music.”

A No-AI Policy in the Studio

Bach further emphasized that his commitment to authenticity extends to his collaborations and production process. “I don’t know how to operate that technology, nor will I partner with producers who use it,” he said. “What you get from me is real musicians in the studio, making real music.”

He also lamented the gradual loss of legendary performers like Ozzy Osbourne and the scarcity of artists dedicated to raw, live performance. “Our heroes are passing on,” he reflected. “I look around, and there are few who do what I do—guys who actually keep their microphones on.”

Navigating Industry Shifts While Preserving Integrity

Bach’s firm stance against AI emerges amidst rapid technological shifts that challenge traditional music-making. Reports from Rewind STL reveal that Bach has declined lucrative offers to license his voice and likeness for AI use, underscoring his commitment to preserving the personal, human element in his craft.

At the same time, HiFi Way highlighted the pressures Bach faces from his record label due to disappointing Spotify streaming figures—a reflection of the wider struggle between old-school musicianship and evolving digital consumption habits.

With a career that began in the late 1980s fronting Skid Row, Bach remains dedicated to delivering powerful, emotive live performances. His rejection of AI-driven music reflects a wider concern within the rock community about maintaining authenticity in an increasingly digitized industry.
