The British Invasion Takes A Latin Turn
One of our favorite things about Santana was the fact that when they did a cover, they really did a cover. So well, in fact, that you forget for a moment that the song was never really theirs to begin with – that, right there, is the mark of great musicianship. In 1977, Santana did just that when they recorded their rendition of The Zombies’ ‘She’s Not There’ for their album Moonflower and if you thought the original was amazing, then Santana’s was truly something special!
Fun Fact: The Zombies recorded this in one take after they won a talent contest at their college called the Herts Beat competition.
Their live performances of ‘She’s Not There,’ such as this one from 1979, were nothing short of explosive and high energy romps through one of rock’s most iconic tunes as only Santana could. With a guitar performance like the one Carlos Santana delivers, it’s easy to see why Santana’s rendition took off and dominated the charts!
+ She’s Not There lyrics +
Well, no one told me about her
The way she lied
Well, no one told me about her
How many people cried
But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there
Well, let me tell you ’bout the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there
Well, no one told me about her
What could I do?
Well, no one told me about her
Though they all knew
But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there
Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there
But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there
Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there
