Unfortunately, fans hoping to see David Lee Roth join Sammy Hagar’s Best of All Worlds tour are in for a letdown. The Red Rocker recently shared that communication has stalled between him and his former Van Halen bandmate. When Hagar first announced the tour, which celebrates Van Halen’s classic hits, he invited Roth to make a guest appearance. Initially, Roth seemed interested, but he stopped responding when Hagar clarified that the offer was for a guest spot on a song or two, not for the entire tour.
“He went AWOL,” Hagar said in a recent interview with Sirius XM’s Eddie Trunk. “After [clarifying the offer], he just kind of went to sleep on it, which is fine. I don’t need Roth antagonizing me.”
Hagar mentioned that the possibility of Roth joining remains open, but he doubts it will happen. “If he really wanted to come out and play music, sing a song and be real and not try to pull some crazy whacked-out stuff,” Hagar said. He acknowledged Roth’s unpredictable nature, saying:
“God bless him, he’s been an entertainer his whole life, and he’s a showman. He likes to upstage people, and that’s been his game. We’re just not into that.”
Still, Hagar expressed a desire for Roth to make an appearance, saying, “I would love him to come and sing ‘Jump’ at the end of this show. Just come out and sing the fucker instead of me.”
While a Roth cameo seems unlikely, Hagar is still honoring Van Halen’s early years in his setlist. He explained:
“The songs we’re singing, the rock tunes, we’re doing ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love’, we’re doing ‘Panama,’ and we’re doing ‘Jump.’
“And quite honestly, I think that’s enough. I don’t want to overdo it and make it look like I’m patronizing or whatever.”
Sammy Hagar Invested $1.5 Million to Bring Best of All Worlds Tour to Life
Additionally, Hagar disclosed that he has personally invested over a million dollars into the tour’s production. He said:
“I put a million-and-a-half dollars into our production.
“When you do that, it just brings the level of the whole thing up—the video wall, everything about it, the lights, the sound. I just got the best of the best, and I’m feeling good about it.”
The Best of All Worlds tour began on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and will wrap up on August 31 in St. Louis.
