A Rock-Filled Celebration in Cabo
Sammy Hagar marked his 78th birthday week in style, throwing his annual star-studded bash in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The Red Rocker took over his legendary Cabo Wabo Cantina for four nights of music, joined by an impressive lineup of rock icons including Belinda Carlisle, Jerry Cantrell, Joey Belladonna, and Deen Castronovo.
Hagar’s shows, filled with high-energy performances and surprise guests, featured a mix of his solo hits, Van Halen favorites, and Montrose classics. Fans were also treated to powerful renditions of iconic rock covers throughout the multi-night celebration.
Jerry Cantrell, Joey Belladonna, and More Join the Party
The festivities kicked off on Oct. 7, when Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell joined Hagar to perform “Would?” and “Man in the Box.” Cantrell returned on Oct. 9, teaming up again for “Rooster” and “Would?” alongside Zach Throne, Kenny Aronoff, Michael Anthony, and Phil X from Bon Jovi.
Later that same night, Anthrax frontman Joey Belladonna and Journey drummer Deen Castronovo hit the stage for a cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” Hagar then joined them for high-octane renditions of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie.”
The momentum continued on Saturday as Belinda Carlisle made a surprise appearance. Together, she and Hagar performed The Go-Go’s classic “We Got the Beat” and her solo hit “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.”
A Toast to Rock Legends
In true Hagar fashion, the celebration included a nod to his Van Halen roots. He led the band through “I’m the One,” a Roth-era classic, featuring Phil X on guitar, Aronoff on drums, and Anthony on bass and vocals.
Before launching into the song, Hagar took a moment to acknowledge his former Van Halen bandmate. “He’s a fuckin’ Libra, he can’t be all bad!” Hagar said with a grin, leading the crowd in a “Happy Birthday” singalong for David Lee Roth, who turned 71 on Friday.
Adding to the celebration, Hagar released a new live album, The Residency, on Friday, featuring performances from his recent Best of All Worlds Las Vegas shows. Fans can catch him again when his residency returns in March and September 2026.
