Recording a Follow-Up to Hackney Diamonds

The Rolling Stones appear to be wrapping up work on their 25th studio album, according to Marlon Richards, son of guitarist Keith Richards. Speaking in a recent interview for Record Collector, Marlon revealed, “They’re in town right now, recording. They’re in Chiswick or somewhere like that; I think they’re nearly done. They still maintain these ridiculous hours: after lunch until two in the morning. I’d rather be somewhere else at that time of night!”

This update arrives after the massive success of their 24th record, Hackney Diamonds, released in 2023. That album featured the final recordings of longtime drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021. It became their fourteenth UK number-one album and marked their first collection of all-new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.

Grammy Momentum and Studio Dedication

The new project comes on the heels of a career milestone. Hackney Diamonds earned the Stones the Best Rock Album award at the 2025 Grammys, adding to their long list of accolades. “They gave them a Grammy, so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’,” Marlon said, describing the band’s renewed energy.

Remarkably, the group keeps late-night studio hours despite their ages: Mick Jagger is 82, Keith Richards is 81, and Ronnie Wood is 78. Their drive shows no sign of slowing, with Marlon noting, “I think they’re doing the follow-up.” Mick Jagger himself hinted last year that Hackney Diamonds would not be the final Rolling Stones record, saying the band was already “three-quarters through the next one.”

Talk of a European Tour

Alongside the album news, rumors of a European tour are gaining attention. “I think they’re planning a tour of Europe,” Marlon Richards said when asked about the possibility of live shows. Fans have reason to hope, as the group reportedly postponed European dates this year because of scheduling conflicts and venue complications.

According to The Times, plans for stops in cities such as Paris, London, Barcelona, and Rome were shelved for 2025 due to other commitments. With a new album nearly complete and fresh Grammy recognition, the Stones seem poised to return to the road, ready to give European fans the concerts they have been waiting for.
