In a heartfelt ode to his late friend Marianne Faithfull, Roger Waters, co-founder of Pink Floyd, shared details about her final musical endeavor. Waters shared her thoughts on their time together and her last finished song, “Love Is,” which she recorded with her grandson Oscar, on X.

“My lovely friend Marianne Faithfull has shed this mortal coil, we loved her,” Waters wrote. “I had lunch with her and her grandson Oscar last summer. They were working on her new song, ‘Love Is.’ It is finished. Oscar sent it to me yesterday. It is very beautiful. Fitting last words from a great lady.”

Their Final Moments Together

Waters also reminisced about personal visits and time spent with Faithfull, sharing how meaningful those moments were in her final years.

“Pics are our last lunch last summer and a visit to her flat in Montparnasse in 2019,” he continued. “Sleep tight my lovely. Love R.”

His post included photos from their last meeting and a previous visit to her Paris home, giving fans a glimpse of the friendship they shared. It showed how Waters held deep affection for Faithfull, not just as an artist, but as a beloved friend.

Faithfull’s Lasting Musical Legacy

The remarkable six-decade career of Faithfull came to an end on January 30, 2025. Andrew Loog Oldham, the Rolling Stones’ manager, first noticed her at one of their parties. She later gained notoriety for her eerie voice and songs like “As Tears Go By.” She eventually gained recognition for her powerful musical reinventions and made her mark in movies as well.

The song Waters mentioned, “Love Is,” was part of her final EP, Burning Moonlight, and is now available digitally. According to The Second Disc, the track connects her folk roots with her signature pop sound, offering a beautiful farewell.

Even late in life, Faithfull never stopped exploring music. Working with her grandson Oscar on “Love Is” was both a personal and creative gesture—proof that her artistry and spirit live on through generations.
