Roger Waters Risk 14 Year Jail Term For Supporting Terrorist Group

Roger Waters has openly declared his backing for Palestine Action, despite the UK government recently proscribing the group as a terrorist organization under the Terrorism Act 2000. Since July 5, publicly supporting or being a member of Palestine Action is a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
On the same day the law came into effect, Waters posted a video on his social media saying: “For the record, I support Palestine Action,” calling the group “a great organisation” and asserting that they are “absolutely not terrorists in any way.” Filming from his studio, he turned his phone camera to a cardboard sign he had written:
“ROGER WATERS SUPPORT PALESTINE ACTION.”
Underneath, he added:
“Parliament has been corrupted by agents of a genocidal foreign power! STAND UP AND BE COUNTED. IT’S NOW!!!”
The sign was dated “5th July 2025.”
Protests, Arrests, and Legal Threats
Also on July 5, London police arrested 29 demonstrators in Parliament Square who held placards stating:
“I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.”
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) responded to Waters’ statement, warning:
“We have reviewed this post. Palestine Action has been proscribed. Anyone expressing support for it contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 commits a criminal offence. We stand ready to privately prosecute offenders in instances where an offence has been made out and the authorities fail to act.”
So far, there has been no official comment from UK police regarding Waters’ video.
Waters’ History of Advocacy and Backlash
Waters has long been vocal about Palestinian rights but has also faced accusations of antisemitism. In 2023, Polly Samson, wife of former Pink Floyd bandmate David Gilmour, tweeted: “Antisemitic to your rotten core,” calling Waters “a Putin apologist” and more. Gilmour added:
“Every word demonstrably true.”
The controversy unfolds amid ongoing violence in Gaza, with over 58,000 Palestinians reported dead since October 2023. Israel denies genocide allegations currently being reviewed by the International Court of Justice.
