Metallica is a heavyweight in the world of heavy metal, known for its electrifying live shows and massive fanbase. But behind the scenes, they’ve earned a reputation as a tough act to tour with. Over the years, several bands have shared their less-than-pleasant experiences hitting the road with Metallica.

Guns N’ Roses
Back in 1992, Guns N’ Roses joined Metallica for their co-headlining stadium tour. What could have been a historic partnership turned rocky fast. Clashing personalities, on-stage drama, and Guns N’ Roses’ habit of leaving early left Metallica scrambling to fill extra time. The tension was so bad that the tour ended sooner than planned.

Faith No More
Faith No More opened for Metallica during the legendary Black Album tour in the early ‘90s. But playing to massive, chaotic crowds wasn’t their scene. They openly referred to Metallica fans as “cavemen” and struggled with the impersonal vibe of huge stadium venues.

Ozzy Osbourne
Even the Prince of Darkness found touring with Metallica a challenge. During the late ‘80s Damaged Justice tour, Ozzy’s band opened for Metallica. However, they often felt overshadowed by Metallica’s high-energy headlining performances, making it tough to connect with the crowd.

Queensrÿche
Queensrÿche’s theatrical, progressive metal style didn’t click with Metallica’s fanbase during their early ‘90s tours. Their elaborate stage shows clashed with Metallica’s raw, stripped-down energy, leaving them feeling like an odd fit for the lineup.

Other Bands’ Struggles

Over the years, bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, and Linkin Park have voiced frustrations about touring with Metallica. Some found the group’s rigorous soundcheck and production demands overwhelming. Others simply struggled to keep up with Metallica’s legendary live performances.

The Metallica Legacy

Love them or hate them, Metallica is undeniably one of the most influential metal bands of all time. Their live shows are a masterclass in energy and power, continuing to draw massive crowds. While they might be a challenging band to tour with, their place in rock history is unshakable.
