Robert Eggers Set To Release A Sequel For “Labyrinth”

via Lyric Movies / Youtube

Following the success of his now Oscar-nominated film Nosferatu, director Robert Eggers is working on a follow-up to the beloved Labyrinth. The enchanting tale that fans fell in love with decades ago will be expanded in this new part, rather than reimagining the renowned 1986 Jim Henson movie.

TriStar Pictures is producing the movie alongside Lia Henson, Chris and Eleanor Columbus, and Brian Henson, who will serve as an executive producer. Eggers will team up with his The Northman collaborator, Sjón, to co-write the script. While specific plot details are still under wraps, excitement is building as production moves forward.

A Sequel Years in the Making

Since 2017, efforts have been underway to create a Labyrinth sequel, with Scott Derrickson already involved in a prior iteration of the project. Fans are excited to see how the imaginative director will handle this extension of the Labyrinth universe now that Eggers is leading the charge. Eggers, who is well-known for his gloomy, atmospheric storytelling in movies like The Lighthouse and The Witch, seems like the ideal choice to add a novel yet unsettling element to this fantastical setting.

Fans of Labyrinth can re-watch the first movie in a completely different way in addition to the sequel. Due to high demand, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: In Concert has been extended through May 2025, allowing viewers to see the beloved film with a live orchestra.

Eggers’ Winning Streak

This news follows Nosferatu’s four Oscar nominations for production design, hair and makeup, costume design, and cinematography. There has been much admiration for Eggers’ ability to build visually spectacular and immersive worlds, which has increased interest in his interpretation of Labyrinth.

Eggers is preparing to make Werwulf, a werewolf horror movie set in the 13th century, which should feature even more of his dark narrative trademark.

Fans of the first Labyrinth have every cause to be thrilled about this much-anticipated continuation of the fascinating story, especially since Eggers is directing the sequel.
