Richie Sambora Responds To “Lies” In Bon Jovi Film

In a recent interview with Guitar Player, former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora addressed what he calls inaccuracies about him in the band’s documentary, Thank You, Goodnight. Sambora expressed frustration over certain portrayals in the film, particularly concerning allegations of unreliability due to substance use.

“That’s one of the other things that was reflected in the documentary: that people thought I was, what, a drunkard? Like I didn’t show up one day because I was high? That doesn’t make any sense to anybody. That’s an incongruency,” Sambora stated emphatically.

He attributed these discrepancies to a lack of communication during the production of the documentary.

“There was obviously an amalgamation of a sh*tload of things over a 31-and-a-half-year period. We couldn’t talk at that point. We weren’t talking – we weren’t communicating. And I was like, ‘That means it’s stale.’”

Sambora clarified his absence from the documentary, highlighting his non-involvement in its creation.

“I had nothing to do with it really, except I work there but it wasn’t my perspective. It was one person’s perspective.”

Regarding Bon Jovi’s 40th anniversary, which coincided with the documentary’s release, Sambora shared his perspective on how it could have been celebrated differently.

“To me, the celebration of 40 years would have been how the songs affected the whole world because we did a pretty good job after doing it. We worked very hard. And the songs really got to people and communicated all over the world.”

Sambora’s interview sheds light on his side of the story amidst the documentary’s portrayal, emphasizing the need for accurate representation and open communication in such projects.
