From The Guitar God
Jimmy Page is more than an axeslinger. He’s also the creative force behind some of Led Zeppelin’s greatest hits. He has worked his way up the proverbial top of rock ‘n roll and is mostly known for being innovative, versatile, and revolutionary. He broke new grounds with his musicianship and virtuosity. From tasteful licks to face-melting solos, he helped lay down the foundation of heavy metal.
He can go from soulful to blistering and kill it every time. In an interview with Rock Cellar Magazine, he was asked what made him pick up the guitar. And Page answered, “Elvis Presley, Bill Black and Scotty Moore, that sort of nucleus, of the rock n roll trio, is just something that was like a seminal event. To hear something like that on the radio! And the records of Ricky Nelson with James Burton playing, too. All that sort of stuff was just absolutely phenomenal to hear.”
To celebrate the massive talent and mad skills of this guitar god, here are seven of his best solos.
7. You Shook Me
It’s raw and powerful – proof that Page was a monster on the guitar.
6. Black Dog
Absolutely wicked. It makes you wonder how many musicians were inspired to pick up the guitar after listening to this stunning solo.
5. Whole Lotta Love
The song that holds up well even after all these years – thanks in part to Page’s unforgettable riffs and mind-blowing solo.
4. Achilles Last Stand
Page’s genius shone through with his guitar work here.
3. Heartbreaker
He reaffirmed his rock god status with his otherworldly shredding skills. Just masterful.
2. Since I’ve Been Loving You
It’s a fan favorite and for good reason. Unless you’re Jimmy Page, that gut-wrenching solo is not easy to replicate.
1. Stairway to Heaven
The ultimate Led Zeppelin song. It’s honestly difficult to pick THE BEST Jimmy Page solo but this one beats them all, no doubt. The sheer power is hands-down insane.
