Rami Malek Wins Best Actor For The Role Of Freddie Mercury In The Oscars
For all his hard work and dedication in the portrayal of Queen’s legendary frontman Freddie Mercury, everything paid off nicely for Rami Malek. During the 91st Academy Awards, 37-year old Malek bagged the Best Actor Award and we couldn’t scream high enough. He absolutely deserved it!
Anyone who has seen Bohemian Rhapsody can easily tell he channeled his inner Freddie Mercury so successfully because even his tiniest gestures and mannerisms were reminiscent of Mercury.
Malek defeated strong contenders like Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Viggo Mortensen, and Bradley Cooper. But it doesn’t really come as a surprise to us given that he has already won several awards prior to this – from the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and BAFTAs. In his acceptance speech, he said:
“I may not have been the obvious choice but I guess it worked out.
“I think about what it would’ve been like to tell little bubba Rami that one day this might happen to him, and I think his curly haired little mind would be blown
“That kid was struggling with his identity, trying to figure himself out. I think to anyone struggling with theirs and trying to find their voice, listen, we made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself. The fact that I’m celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we’re longing for stories like this.
“I am the son of immigrants from Egypt, a first-generation American. And part of my story is being written right now. And I could not be more grateful to each and every one of you, and everyone who believed in me for this moment. (Tramadol) It’s something I will treasure for the rest of my life.”
He also thanked Queen for “the tiniest part of your phenomenal legacy, I am forever in your debt.“ Congratulations, Rami Malek. You absolutely deserve it!
