Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin faced a dramatic standoff with police and a SWAT team in Burbank, California, leading to his arrest. TMZ first reported the incident which unfolded early on July 31, when Scantlin, 52, was pulled over for an alleged traffic violation. During the stop, officers discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest related to gun possession at an airport. According to the Burbank Police Department, Scantlin refused to exit his vehicle despite multiple requests from the police and a crisis negotiator.
As the situation escalated, a SWAT team was called to the scene, arriving around 4:00 AM. After a tense standoff, the SWAT team broke Scantlin’s vehicle window and used pepper balls to subdue him. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to a hospital to have his eyes flushed before being booked at the Burbank Jail for an outstanding warrant and resisting arrest. Scantlin has since been released but is expected back in court on August 20. A representative for Scantlin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Scantlin has had a history of legal troubles, including multiple arrests for driving under the influence in 2015 and charges of vandalism and trespassing in 2016. Despite his numerous run-ins with the law, Scantlin has defended himself, suggesting his actions have been misunderstood. “Sure, I got arrested for driving under the influence and so forth, but who hasn’t, you know?” he remarked in a 2022 interview with AL.com. He also expressed frustration with the media’s portrayal of him, stating:
“The media kind of tricks people into believing things that really just aren’t seriously true.”
Known for his band’s hits and infamous incidents, Scantlin continues to maintain that he’s simply a “cool downhome Kansas City boy” living out his dreams. Despite the controversies, he insists his journey is far from over.
