Even though Priscilla Presley and her ex-husband divorced well before his death on August 16, 1977, she continues to hold him in fond memory. On the 47th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, Priscilla honored his legacy with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
The 79-year-old actress and businesswoman reflected on nearly 50 years since Elvis passed away from a heart attack in 1977. “47 years and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you🌹” Priscilla Presley captioned her tribute post, which featured a video edit of a black-and-white photo of a young Elvis paired with an audio clip of “Always On My Mind.” The video concludes with the caption:
“Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977.”
Elvis recorded “Always On My Mind” in March 1972, just weeks after he and Priscilla decided to separate in February of that year.
Priscilla and Elvis Presley Relationship Timeline
Priscilla (then Priscilla Beaulieu) met Elvis in 1959 when he was stationed in West Germany with the US Army. She was 14 years old at the time, while Elvis was 24. Their relationship, which is depicted in Sofia Coppola’s recent film Priscilla, drew controversy because Priscilla was a minor when they first became involved.
The two maintained a 13-year relationship, spending much of the early years apart due to long-distance. In 1963, Priscilla moved to Memphis to live with Elvis’ parents and continue her education. They married in a small Las Vegas ceremony in 1967 with only 14 guests.
In 1968, the couple welcomed their only daughter, Lisa Marie. However, their relationship began to deteriorate soon after Lisa Marie’s birth. They divorced in 1972 but remained friends until Elvis’ death from hypertensive heart disease in 1977.
After Elvis’ passing, Priscilla never remarried, though she had relationships with Mike Stone, Robert Kardashian, Marco Antonio Garcia, and others over the years. She gave birth to her second child, Navarone Garibaldi, in 1987.
Following Elvis’ death, his daughter Lisa Marie became his sole beneficiary. Lisa Marie passed away in 2023 at the age of 54 from cardiac arrest.
