Is Phil Collins gearing up to release his first new music in over 20 years? According to producer and manager Simon Napier-Bell, the former Genesis frontman has been updating his home studio by Lake Geneva, sparking rumors of a musical comeback.

Napier-Bell, who recently interviewed Collins for an upcoming documentary on London’s iconic Marquee Club, shared some insights in a social media post. “He was in top form, full of wicked stories – hugely fun,” Napier-Bell remarked, hinting at Collins’ readiness to re-enter the music scene.

Genesis, the band Collins helped to global fame, has deep ties to the Marquee Club, with performances dating back to the Peter Gabriel era. Collins himself fronted a memorable Genesis show at the venue in September 1982. Despite their platinum-selling status, the band performed under the name “The Garden Wall” in a secret warm-up gig before their multi-night run at the Hammersmith Odeon during the Three Sides Live Tour. Recordings of this show have become popular among fans, often surfacing as bootlegs.

New Music from Phil Collins on the Horizon

News of Collins possibly returning to recording is particularly exciting, as his last new music was for the soundtrack of Disney’s 2003 film Brother Bear. His most recent solo album of original material was 2002’s Testify, followed by a 2010 cover album of R&B standards titled Going Back.

Napier-Bell added more fuel to the speculation, saying:

“He’s just had his studio revamped. For sure, before too long we’re going to hear some new music.”

Thrilled fans can also look forward to an expanded 30th-anniversary edition of Collins’ 1993 solo album Both Sides, set for release in September. Titled Both Sides (All the Sides), this box set revisits an album that debuted two years after Collins’ final work with Genesis on We Can’t Dance.
